This Easter, Bring Life-Giving Water

All life depends on water. Families need water to live, children need water to grow, and communities need water to flourish. Even a young parish cannot grow without it.

At Easter, we celebrate the new life that comes through the waters of baptism. Water is at the heart of our faith, and it is also at the heart of daily life in the communities we serve.

In much of East Africa, especially around the Great Lakes region, rainwater is the primary source of water for families, schools, and parishes. When the rains come, that water must be carefully collected and stored so it can sustain the community through the dry months. With your help, Missionaries of Africa assist communities in building rainwater collection systems that gather water from rooftops and store it in large cistern tanks for daily use.

These systems make a lasting difference. With access to water, parish communities can gather and grow, schools can function more effectively, and families no longer need to struggle each day to find this basic necessity.

“Water is essential for every aspect of life. It is crucial for sanitation and well-being. Many of our people live in environments where access to water is scarce, despite the rain that falls. In our communities, water tanks have a major impact, as they allow parishes, schools, hospitals, and families to collect and store the rainwater they depend on each day. Having a water tank in East Africa is a fundamental asset, as it provides reliable access to water.”

St. Matthew Parish on the outskirts of Mbarara in western Uganda is a young and growing Catholic community. The parish collects rainwater from the rectory roof, but it is not enough to sustain the community through the dry season. By connecting the church building to the system and installing another cistern, the parish could double its water capacity.

Father Maheshe Jean Pierre explains, “The parishioners have already contributed so much to the building of the church. They simply do not have the money for this essential need.”

St. Matthew is one of several mission communities working to secure the water they need to grow. Your support helps provide the cisterns, foundations, gutters, and piping needed so these communities can collect and store rainwater.

This Easter, you can help bring life-giving water to communities that depend on it every day. Donor Today
