In Uganda, Martyrs Day Celebrations Postponed Amid Ebola Concerns

The Uganda government has postponed this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations because of concerns surrounding the Ebola outbreak. The annual pilgrimage, which draws thousands of faithful from across Africa and beyond to honor the witness of the Uganda Martyrs, was delayed as health officials work to contain the spread of the disease and protect communities.

The Catholic feast of St. Charles Lwanga and his companions, also known as the Uganda Martyrs, will still be celebrated around the world on June 3. In Uganda, Catholics are being encouraged to celebrate privately or in smaller gatherings while health precautions remain in place.
