Missionaries of Africa Celebrate 125 Years in the Americas
On World Mission Sunday, October 18, 2026, the Missionaries of Africa celebrated the 125th anniversary of their arrival in Quebec, Canada. The anniversary Mass, held at Saint-Roch Church in Quebec City, was presided over by Cardinal Gérald Cyprien Lacroix, Archbishop of Quebec.
The celebration brought together members and friends of the Missionaries of Africa to give thanks for 125 years of missionary presence in North America and to reflect on the Society’s continuing work throughout the world.
The Missionaries of Africa first arrived in Quebec in 1901 and expanded into the United States in 1929. Over the generations, Catholics throughout North America have supported the Society’s work of evangelization, education, healthcare, and service to communities across Africa.
Fr. Stanley Lubungo, Superior General of the Missionaries of Africa, and Fr. Barthélémy Bazemo, Provincial Superior of the Americas, delivered addresses marking this important anniversary.
The celebration’s theme, “One in Christ, United in Mission!”, reflects the shared faith and commitment that continue to unite missionaries and supporters across continents.
