In Memory of Most Rev. Albert Privet Thévenot, M. Afr.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, has announced the sudden passing of Most Reverend Albert Privet Thévenot, M. Afr. Bishop Thévenot peacefully passed away from heart failure at his residence in Prince Albert on April 13, the morning of Palm Sunday. He was 79.
Bishop Thévenot was a dedicated member of the Missionaries of Africa since 1964, initially as a brother before being ordained a priest in 1980. He served with distinction in Tanzania and held leadership roles on the General Council in Rome and as Provincial of the North American Province. Appointed by Pope Benedict XVI, he faithfully served as the sixth Bishop of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, beginning August 6, 2008, until his retirement on March 25, 2021.
Known for his focus on pastoral care, Bishop Thévenot was deeply admired for his devotion to the people he served. He will be greatly missed in the Diocese of Prince Albert, where he continued to minister as Bishop Emeritus until his passing. His down-to-earth leadership style and care for the well-being of others will be fondly remembered by his confrères in the Missionaries of Africa and all who had the privilege of working with him.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced following the Easter celebrations.
